Several years ago, I decided to give up drinking coffee.. (crazy I know), but I couldn’t be happier with my choice! Obviously, since then I have become a huge tea drinker, one particular kind to be exact.. Green Tea. I’ve mentioned in a post before that green tea is my all time favourite, I usually have about 2 sometimes even 3 cups a day. Honestly, if you open up my cupboards, you will find many different types of green teas, loose, matcha, mixes, maple, and the list goes on and on. These are on top of all the other delicious teas packed in there.
Recently, I found myself constantly forgetting to restock on my favourite green tea, and after having a few cups of all the other kinds, I thought it was time to dabble in the other delicious teas I forgot about. This got me thinking about how many other wonderful kinds there are. Today I wanted to share a few different teas, that you can have throughout the day – not just for a certain time, but also for different moods you might be feeling.
Rise and Shine
As much as I’m an early bird, waking up sometimes seems like such a drag. One of my favourite teas to drink bright and early, is a bright Golden Turmeric Tea. It’s almond or coconut milk based, so its nice and filling first thing in the morning. Turmeric tea has so many health benefits and it tastes amazing – it’ll give you a nice start to your day!
Pick Me Up
Ever get to that point in the day, when you just feel sluggish – not only with your body, but your mood as well? My go to tea during times like this, is something fruity and refreshing. What I love most about Lipton’s Summer Fruits Tea, is that you can drink it hot, or on a hot summers day, let it cool and add some ice (and fruit) for a chilled drink.
As I said before I love drinking green tea at anytime during the day, but my favourite time, is post gym. Green tea, especially one with matcha, makes for a nice treat once I’ve settled down after a workout. I sometimes I prefer a green tea latte (made with almond milk) for something with a little more substance, to help me recover.
Now, I must say I definitely have a huge sweet tooth (as you can probably tell from all the treats I make), but after a meal, I love something to sweeten my pallet. When I’m good, I usually reach for tea instead of a baked good, my favourites have to be PC’s Chocolate Chai or Peppermint. Who wouldn’t want something sweet without all the guilt?
Take me back
Growing up evening tea was always a big thing in my household, plain old Orange Pekoe to be exact. I still love having regular tea with a cookie or two on the side. Fun fact, it’s the only tea I’ll drink with a little bit of sugar (for old times sake). Sometimes the taste of something familiar has a nice way of brightening your day!
Of course when I’m settling down with book before bed, its nice to have something to sip on. For me and most people I think it has to be Camomile Tea. Nothing beats the warm and cozy taste of a nice cup of camomile tea before bed. Also if you can’t sleep, or have an upset stomach during the night, this is definitely a go-to, after all it does aid with sleep.
Once A Week
I like to end the week, by having a “Black” milked based tea. Not black as in no sugar, but black because it’s made with food grade Activated Charcoal. Honestly, it takes great, especially if made with an almond milk, and is a great cleanser to flush everything out.
DIY Golden Tea:
In a small saucepan on medium heat, whisk 1 cup of Almond Milk, 1 tbsp of Tumeric, 1/4 tsp Fresh ginger, 1 tbsp of Honey, and 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon. Reduce heat and let everything simmer together for 6-8 minutes.
DIY BLACK TEA:
In a small saucepan on medium heat, whisk 1 cup of Almond Milk, 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon, 1/4 tsp Fresh ginger, and 5 Whole Peppercorns. Reduce heat and let everything simmer together for 6-8 minutes. Pour the the mix into a strained blender, with 1 tbsp of Honey, 1/4 tsp of Activated Charcoal, – blend until everything is combined.
